Bookcity Event Milan
Every year, “Bookcity Milano” week takes hold in Milan: a series of events to promote initiatives related to literature (whether these are presentations of new books, collective readings or discussions with authors).
Intercultura Milano (Milan chapter in the italian AFS network) regularly participates in this type of initiative, with the aim of making the AFS organization known outside conventional channels.
01 - Search for authors and site selection
Up to 2022, we always opted to interview authors who had completed their experience abroad with AFS. For the 2023 edition, however, we sought out authors outside of the AFS circle, looking for a connection within the contents rather than simply the fact that they were former scholars.
02 - David, Raffaella and Gianmarco
After months of research, we managed to get in touch with three authors: David Valentini, Raffaella Mottana and Gianmarco Perale.
Bringing their books Tutto ciò che poteva rompersi, Senza respiro (both Accento Edizioni) and Amico mio (NN Editore), we can create parallels between what the authors narrate and the experiences abroad that scholars live thanks to AFS.
Clear examples are self-discovery, difficulties given by a different context and personal growth.
All this unfolds in the prestigious Triennale di Milano.
03 - Social promotion
Adapting to the graphic format provided by Bookcity, we launched on our social communication. Stories and reels on instagram, events and posts on Linkedin, reposts from all over.
04 - The big night
The event goes off without a hitch, and the initial goal of reaching an audience outside our usual circuits is achieved thanks to the audience of each of the three authors.
