DP12evo livery design

Working within the marketing department of Dynamis PRC team, I was responsible for converting the various project phases into communication actions.

Among the various work lines I was able to follow as graphic designer, the most challenging was definitely the conceptionof the livery intended for the 2021 single-seater racecar: the DP12e.

01 - The need for a livery

The livery is the dress of the car. It is meant to make the single-seater attractive and, above all, recognizable: the main goal is to identify which team it belongs to as easily as possible.

02 - Colors and sponsor placement

The companies that sponsor the team are divided into four categories: Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. The degree of importance corresponds to greater or lesser visibility on the bodywork: this is given by the size of the logo and the position on the car.

As in previous years, Platinum ones (most important) are placed on the rear wing, Gold on the nose, Silver on the sides of the body, and Bronze on the side skirts.

What differs from past years, however, is the color arrangement. Until now, red or white (team's main colors) prevailed on Dynamis single-seater liveries, while in 2021 we were the first to conceive of a mostly black livery. The intent is to leave the carbon fiber of the body exposed.

03 - Bi-dimensional layout

To figure out how to arrange all the logos (more than 120 sponsors) properly, we worked out a two-dimensional table, using the car's orthogonal projections.

Once they were agreed upon, we moved to a three-dimensional workspace.

04 - 3D render

By creating a virtual model of the car, we were able to understand how the applied stickers would deform due to the body shapes.

Any errors or details that needed refinement were improved on the 2D, and then verified in three dimensions.

After a few tries, we reached the final proposal.

05 - Painting and implementation

We turned to a specialized center for the painting: the process took several days, as each individual piece of the body and aerodynamic components was treated differently.

The carbon was polished to look shiny, the red and white stripes were hand-traced by us and painted by a professional.

Once the car was assembled, we turned our attention to applying the sponsors' logos: in this case, we applied vynil directly to the bodywork.
